SUMMER TIME and the living is easy. Before you curl up with your book and ice tea on the patio, you need to come for your morning ride. Check out the schedule early as rides start from all over the city and Front Range. Contact your ride coordinator about getting your rides on the schedule for this summer. We are always looking for something new and different. The coordinators will be glad to help you with the details.

Maps for Planning a Route: At www.dbtc.org/mapindex01.aspx is a library of maps for your use in planning a route. Take a look under the ROUTE MAP LIBRARY tab. You can browse thru the maps then download the map with the route you like.
Be Ready To Ride: DBTC Ride Leaders and members are NOT bike mechanics. Before showing up for a ride, check you tubes and tires. Fix flats in advance of start time. Check your brakes and shifters, and, if any part of your bike needs maintenance, take it to an authorized mechanic. A complete tune up once a year is recommended. Your ride is only as safe and enjoyable as the condition of your bike.

FUN-H3-25-W 9:00AM Meet Elly Baldwin (720-231-8778) at Dillon Amphitheatre parking lot at 9:00 AM . We will ride from the Amphitheatre up the new paved Swan Mountain bike trail to Sapphire Point and back down, ride to Keystone and return to the Amphitheatre parking lot then on to the Arapahoe Cafe for lunch.
Slow INT-H1-30 SE 8:00 AM Meet Ellen Chilikas (H: 303.750.5099, C: 720.670/0296) for a SINGLES Signpost ride at 9AM at the Starbucks on the NE Corner of Belleview and Yosemite (4920 S Yosemite Ste C7, Greenwood Village 80111). Please park in the southern end of the parking lot away from the grocery store by Belleview Ave. We’ll socialize over coffee and then ride through Cherry Creek reservoir, down Jordan Road, along the E-470 trail to the Meridian office park. After riding the loop a few times, we’ll return via Inverness. Riders must be able to average 12 mph to come on this ride. Optional lunch afterwards at Tokyo Joe’s.
ROAD-H4-47 W 8:00AM Meet Luanne Ralph (303-798-6622) at west corner of Safeway in Idaho Springs. Ride will be an out-and-back to Berthoud Pass. Lunch in Idaho Springs if riders so desire.

FUN-H1-22 SE 9:00 AM Meet Wayne Tomasello (720-344-8932) at DeKoevend Park on University Blvd for a ride on the Highline Canal though Greenwood Village and Cherry Hills Village. The ride is on a gravel bike path. An optional lunch after the ride is at the Fox and Hound on Arapahoe Road which features half price burgers on Mondays.

"Roses" H2-15-20 SE 8:30AM Meet Peggy Ochiatto, 303-850-9731 at Village Greens Park ( NW corner of Union and Dayton, near the west entrance of Cherry Creek Reservoir, furthest north parking lot) for a ride skirting Cherry Creek Dam, then north along the Cherry Creek Trail toward downtown. Bring a snack and money for lunch at a favorite eatery after the ride.
FUN-H2-33 SW 9:00 AM Meet Ray Berlin (303-789-3119) at Belleview Park 5001 So. Inca Dr. We will ride through Bow Mar to Clement Park , Lilley Gulch, Kipling Parkway , Deer Creek Rd. , Chatfield area, Platte River Trail. We will eat at Panera Bread during ride about 27 miles. Those wanting a shorter ride can take a shorter route of 27 miles to Panera.

FUN-H2-19 SW 10:00 AM GARY'S QUADRUPLE BIKEPATH Meet Gary Goins (303-433-4398) at Writer's Park Vista for a ride along the Highline Canal Trail, the Chatfield Dam Trail, the Platte River Trail and Lee Gulch Trail. Much of this ride is over dirt trails and will require fat tires. Bring air, a spare and money for lunch!

ROAD-H4-35 NW 10:30AM Meet Chris Mattivi (720-277-5992) at Mercedes Mexican Restaurant 26th and Kipling at 10:30am for the south ride in a counter clockwise direction. Pace will be 15-17 on the flats. We’ll visit Golden, Dinosaur Ridge, Red Rocks. This will be a no drop ride.
MTB P2-3, T2-3 Meadow Mountain at Minturn. Sandy Shapiro will be leading a weekend west Vail area ride sampler. More details will be provided by the email group. Sandy will try to find inexpensive hotel lodging, if one wants to stay on Saturday eve. Boneyard at Eagle may be the Sunday option.

Ride east on Boulder Creek trail to Valmont Rd streets with bike lane over the hill through Niwot to Hygiene for coffee return same direction. Those who want to eat will ride west on Boulder Creek Trail to the Pearl Ave Mall.
Monday, August 9
FUN-H2-22 NW 9:00 AM Meet Wayne Tomasello (720-344-8932) at Cinzzetti's Restaurant off 104th at I-25 for a ride along the Farmers Highline Canal to Standley Lake. The ride is on mostly paved bike path with some dirt path. There is some street riding. Lunch after the ride at Cinzzetti's.

"Roses" H1-20 SE 8:30 AM Meet Judy Deist 303-841-4792 at East Park (South of Mainstreet, at the intersection of Parker Rd. and lndian Pipe/Pine on the West side of Parker Rd.) for a ride south on the Cherry Creek Trail. Part of the route is on packed gravel. Bring a snack, and money for a restaurant lunch after the ride.
FUN/INT–H2–29 SE 9:00 AM Meet John Mues (303-795-6167 [home]) at the Piney Creek Trailhead (SE corner of Orchard & Parker Rd in the Piney Creek SC – park in the lot near the trail access). Ride on the Piney Creek Trail and streets east toward Aurora Reservoir, where we’ll take a break at the snack bar after completing a circuit of the trail loop. Lunch is optional after the ride.
Slow INT-H1-10 to 15 SE 5:00PM C&O CANAL TRAINING RIDE – Meet Ellen Chilikas (h: 303-750-5099, c: 720-670-0296) at Village Greens Park (NE corner of Union and Dayton, near the west entrance of Cherry Creek Reservoir). FUN-H1-22 NW 9:00 AM Meet Dave Noble (303-694-2008, 303-906-3163 cell) for a new ride on the Grange Hall Creek and Farmer’s Highline Trails to the Westminster Recreation Center. Meet at the Elaine Valente open space parking lot near 104th and US 85 (take I-76 to US 85 to 104th and go west just over 1 mile, or take I-25 to 104th and go east for about 5 miles). Lunch afterwards at a site to be determined.
FUN-H1-28.378 (apprx.) SE 9:00 AM Meet at Four Mile House 715 S. Forest, Denver. Ride west to Platte River via Wash. Park, south to Union, east to Clarkson and then to Eisenhower Park, east on the Highline to Cook Park and then back home. Some trails, some streets. SOME FUN ! Guy James (303-321-4607) will lead this adventure.
ROAD-H4-40+ W 9:00AM Meet Diane Short (303-763-9874 or dianbike@eazy.net; do not pick this up nights or weekends) in Empire. To get to the town of Empire, take I-70 west to the US 40 Winter Park Exit. Go into the town of Empire. Meet at 9:00 am at the little baseball field on Bard Creek Road (Jenny’s is on the corner of US 40, turn left and go ~.6 mile, field is on the left.). Carpool from the Wooly Mammoth RTD lot far west end across from gas station at 8:00 am. Call if you want to carpool!! The ride will go over Berthoud Pass to Winter Park for a light lunch and then return over the Pass. Option to go on to Fraser (total 52 miles) or take the back roads towards Tabernash (total 60 miles) if anyone wants a longer ride.
MTB P3, T2-3 9:30 AM, Crested Butte Trail 401 The classic adventure at Crested Butte! Awesome views from a trail 1500 feet above the valley bottom. 14.5 miles of wonder. This is the trail to do today. You are the leader. Unforgettable!

FUN-H2-20 NW 9:00 AM Meet Dave Grimes (303-986-7666) at Berkley Park near 46th Ave and Sheridan. Dave will lead the group north on Tennyson to the Clear Creek Trail, to the Platte River Trail to a stop at REI. Return to Berkley Park via the Platte River, 47th Avenue and other streets. Lunch at a selected eatery after the ride.
FUN-H1-35-Central-8:30 AM Y BIKE ? Meet Sandra Newton (303-731-5588,cell 443-540-9414) at the Park Hill Elementary School parking lot, on Fairfax between 18th & 19th Ave. We will ride up to the Sand Creek Trail, double back to the Platte River trail, and then around town. This is roughly in the shape of a capital Y. Hence the name. We will experience great food at a local Asian restaurant.
Slow-INT-H1-30ish Hybrid or Mountain Bike Ride SE 8:30 AM C&O CANAL TRAINING RIDE Meet Ellen Chilikas (H: 303.750.5099, C: 720.670/0296) at the intersection of the Highline Canal trail and E. Quincy Ave (the trail intersects Quincy between Dahlia and Colorado Blvd - from the intersection of Colorado Blvd and Hampden Ave, take Colorado Blvd south to Quincy, go east on Quincy past Bellaire until you see the trail crossing - there is street parking on both sides of Quincy - look for Ellen's green Honda Element). We will do an out and back ride on the Highline Canal trail south for about 15 miles before turning around. There is no restroom at the start location so plan accordingly! Pace will be 10-12 mph. This is a training ride for the C&O Canal trip but is open to all club members.
MTB P2-3, T2-4 9:30 AM, Crested Butte Teocalli Ridge A little lung buster 2000’ climb in about 7 miles, then a tight and twisty 3.5 mile downhill, quite steep in a few places.

FUN H1-20, 9AM MFW Fun Ride (Mussels Fries and Wine Let's go do a 20 mile ride starting from behind the Tattered Cover Book Store (2526 East Colfax Ave) at the bike racks (park in the garage but not in the tiny lot behind the bookstore. Why do this ride? The Encore Restaurant has a Tuesday special so for $12 you get a big bowl of mussels, some really good fries, and a glass of wine. What a deal! FUN/INT- H2-29 SE 9:00 AM Meet Russ Tempelman (303-617-0260) at the Piney Creek Trailhead for a ride to the Aurora Reservoir which has a wonderful paved trail going around it (about 8 miles) with a marina, beach and snack bar. If you haven't been there, I think you'll enjoy seeing it. We'll go via the Piney Creek Trail part of the way and then various streets. The Piney Creek Trailhead is located at Parker Road and Orchard. Turn East on Orchard Road to the first stop light, then turn Right into the parking lot. Lunch optional after the ride.

FUN/ATB or MTB P1-T1 24 miles 8:15 to carpool or 9:00 AM at trailhead Meet Lin Hark (303-507-3502) at 9am at the trailhead, or 8:15am at the Conifer Staples to carpool to Foxton Rd and the South Platte River for a fun ride on a well graded dirt road. We will see the beautiful canyon, the old Hotel in South Platte, the Two Forks Confluence, Strontia Springs Reservoir, the old town of Foxton, the most beautiful section of the South Platte River, an old resort, and the historic Buffalo Creek General Store. Lunch after at the Historic Bucksnort Saloon in Sphinx Park near Pine. Contact Lin for directions and more details.
FUN-H2-27 SE 9:30 AM Meet Dave Noble (303-694-2008) at South High School parking lot (Louisiana and Franklin) for a ride suggested by the July 5th Denver Post. It is a loop on Dartmouth, Garrison, 26th, the Cherry Creek trail, and Washington Park. Afterwards, we'll go to lunch at a nearby restaurant.
INT–H3–30 SE 9:00 AM Meet John Mues (303-795-6167 [home]) at the C-470 & University Park & Ride (SW corner of interchange) for a loop of the Highlands Ranch / Castle Pines area. Expect quite a bit of traffic on the roads in Highlands Ranch, but there will be shoulders available throughout. We’ll work our way up Monarch Blvd. into Castle Pines North, where we’ll do a loop on some quieter streets. Maps and cue sheets will be handed out prior to the ride. Lunch is optional after the ride.

LEISURE/FUN-H2-19 NW 9:00AM Strike it rich! Meet Nadean Kruse (303-988-8186) at Gold Strike Park, at the junction of Sheridan and I-76. {Directions: Go one block N of I-76 on Sheridan, turn west on Ralston Road. At the first stoplight at 56th Ave, turn south. Go about one block and turn left into the park. Look for the tall white "mast" of the span bridge on the bike path.} This ride is great for those looking for a gentle workout with frequent rest stops. Nadean will make a loop using Ralston Creek Trail, 72nd St., Little Dry Creek and Clear Creek trails. There will be an ice cream break to keep us cool, and lunch afterwards.
FUN-H1 Central 9:00 AM It's a MAD MAD MAD GREENS Ride! Meet Sandra Newton (443-540-9414 c) in the parking lot of Bromwell Elementary School (2500 E. 4th Ave. at the corner of Columbine St. & 4th Ave.). We'll ride city streets and bike paths finishing up with lunch at Mad Greens.....fantastic salads and big burly sandwiches on offer there.
ROAD-H4-66 N 8:00AM Meet Peggy Vanallen Caldwell (303-410-1986) at Amante Coffee Shop in North Boulder: 4580 Broadway, at 8:00am. Starting in north Boulder following country roads, with a climb up to Carter Lake and circling back to Boulder.

Burgers, Beer and Fries Fun Ride , H1-20, 9AM A FUN ride of about 20 miles or so to finish off with the Monday burgers, beer and fries lunch special all for $10. Apparently Encore has been voted the best burger in Denver more than once, so let's check that out. FUN-H2/H3-25 or 35 SW 8:30 AM Meet Patty Gaspar (303-989-8268) behind the McDonald’s at Sheridan and Hampden. We’ll head to the Tech Center on various trails. We have to climb some hills and there are sections on the Highline Canal (pea gravel), and then we’ll have our morning latte and loop back to Bear Valley. If interested, you can add a loop around Cherry Creek Reservoir. It is a beautiful ride and we get have a wonderful downhill back to Bear Valley. Lunch is in Bear Valley.

FUN -H1 –21 NE 9:00 AM Tour of North Denver Wineries. Meet Don and Marilyn Swett (303-791-5863) at Balistreri Winery, 1946 E 66th Ave. for our annual winery tasting tour. We will be stopping at 3 of Denver’s fine wineries - Balistreri, Bonacquisti and Spero Wineries. Bring cash or plastic and maybe saddlebags just in case you find a wine you love. FUN-H3-25 W 9:00 AM Meet Susan Gregory (303-477-9233) in the Idaho Springs public parking lot behind Beau Jo's to ride to Georgetown. We will gather briefly at the Georgetown Visitor's Center and return to Idaho Springs before the wind start blowing up the canyon. Lunch is at Tommyknockers.
ROAD-H2-26 or 40 SE 9:00AM Meet Dennis Fitzpatrick (303-322-0290) in front of the Colorado Athletic Club (CAC), 1630 Welton St. in downtown Denver for a moderately paced ride to Cherry Creek Reservoir. Optional hammer around the reservoir. Distance 26-40 miles. This ride is sponsored by CAC, so you can get a pass to use the club to shower, soak, or workout after the ride! There is free parking at Curtis park [25thAve and Curtis St], or near the Safeway at 20th Ave and Washington St, or at City of Cuernavaca Park just north of REI.
MTB P2-3, T2-3 8:30 AM to carpool or 9:15 at trailhead Centennial Cone Cathy Perkins (303-990-6738) will be leading the pack again for this tour. Carpool time shown for 4th and Union Coldspring, otherwise meet by 9:15 at Douglas Mountain Road trailhead.

FUN-H1-25 SW 9:00 AM Meet Wayne Tomasello (720-344-8932) at the Platte River Grill located at 5995 Santa Fe Drive. From C-470 take the Santa Fe Dr. exit going north for about 3 miles. The Platte River Bar & Grill is on the left (West) side. Enter the parking lot and drive to the rear of the restaurant and park towards the rear of the lot. We will ride up Lee Gulch trail to the Highline Trail to the top of the dam at Chatfield to the Platte River Trail. This ride is on both paved and gravel trails. An optional lunch is at the Platte River Grill.
