Hard to believe that summer is winding down. Your bike is the perfect way to enjoy the crisp fall air and appreciate the fall colors.  Contact your ride coordinator about getting your rides on the schedule for October. The rides will be show and go from November through March. We are always looking for something new and different. The coordinators will be glad to help you with the details.

Maps for Planning a Route: At www.dbtc.org/mapindex01.aspx is a library of maps for your use in planning a route. Take a look under the ROUTE MAP LIBRARY tab. You can browse thru the maps then download the map with the route you like.

Be Ready To Ride: DBTC Ride Leaders and members are NOT bike mechanics. Before showing up for a ride, check you tubes and tires. Fix flats in advance of start time.  Check your brakes and shifters, and, if any part of your bike needs maintenance, take it to an authorized mechanic. A complete tune up once a year is recommended. Your ride is only as safe and enjoyable as the condition of your bike.

FUN/INT-H1-32 C 8:30 AM- Meet Sandra Newton on Eastward O Ride. Meet in the parking lot of the Dollar Store at the NW corner of Colfax and Elm St. Please park away from the store entrance. We'll ride out through Lowrey, pick up the Highline Canal Trail eastwards out and around and come back via Cherry Creek trail and some city streets. "Roses"-H2-16 SE 9:00 AM Meet Judy Deist, 303-841-4792, Cell 303-906-4305 , at the south side of the Wal-mart parking lot off of Aurora Parkway and Commons, which is in the Southlands shopping mall north of Smokey Hill road and west of Aurora Parkway in Aurora. Walmart is just north of Sams Club. We will ride around the Aurora reservoir and more. Bring a snack and money for a restaurant lunch after the ride.

FUN-H1-25 NW 9:30 AM Meet Cindy Ferry (303-274-9454) at @ Safeway parking lot at Wadsworth and 80th.  Cindy will lead a ride down the Dry Creek Trail to the Clear Creek Trail and return.  Lunch afterwards at an eatery to be determined.

MTB P3, T2-3 9:30 AM Mount Falcon/Lair Loop, starting from the Morrison/C-470 Conoco lot, 21 miles.  Start this 3-day weekend with a good local ride, afterwards treat yourself to a tasty lunch at the Blue Cow along the way back.  Jeff 303-969-9241

FUN-H3-25 W 9:00 AM  Meet Susan Gregory (303-477-9233) in the Idaho Springs public parking lot behind Beau Jo's to ride to Georgetown.  We will gather briefly at the Georgetown Visitor's Center and return to Idaho Springs before the wind starts blowing up the canyon. The road has been under reconstruction all summer so let’s enjoy the new road! Lunch is at Tommyknockers.

FUN-H1-29 NW 10:00 AM Fun Beer and Lunch Ride Meet Jake Jacobi (303.475.0374) at Goldstrike Park near the junction of Sheridan and I-76. We’ll ride along Clear Creek and south along the Platte, exiting around 20th St and proceed to the Falling Rock Tap House, 1919 Blake St (www.fallingrocktaphouse.com). After lunch and/or a beer, we will return along the same route. 

FUN-H1-30 C 9:00 AM   EASTWARD HO!  Meet Sandra Newton (303-731-5588, cell 443-540-9414) at the Park Hill Elementary School parking lot, on Fairfax between 18th & 19th Ave. for a ride on city streets, around Lowry and then go eastward like reverse pioneers on the Highline Canal trail. We'll ride the trail out and back and then return by a different route once we get back on city streets. Bring a snack for the mid-way point and enough water to last you. Lunch will be along the way at the Krameria Cafe approximately. 6 blocks from the start of the ride.

"Roses"  H1-20  SW 9:00 AM  Meet Peggy Ochiatto, 303-850-9731 at Centennial Park, north side of Union between Federal and Santa Fe for a ride north on the Platte River to REI and return.  Bring a snack and money for a restaurant lunch after the ride.  Locks needed.

FUN-H3-35-Boulder 9:30 AM Meet Rick Clauder (303-709-5489) at Scott Carpenter Park Boulder just south on 30th of Arapahoe. Ride east on Boulder Creek trail to Valmont Rd streets with bike lane over the hill through Niwot to Hygiene for coffee return same direction. Those who want to eat will ride west on Boulder Creek Trail to the Pearl Ave Mall.

FUN-H1-23 C 9:00 AM  BACK TO SCHOOL RIDE. Meet Marilyn Swett (303-791-5864) at the Windsor Gardens community center parking lot. Enter at Alameda Ave. and Clinton St., continue to the stop sign and go straight. The community center will be on your right. Park on the street or in the lot away from the buildings. We will be riding by many of Denver's historic schools, enjoying and discussing their history and architecture. Bring money for a possible ice cream stop and lunch afterwards.

FUN- H2-22 W 10:00 AM Meet Bill Kunzman (H 303-278-3059, C 303-229-2497) behind Beau Jo’s in Idaho Springs for a ride up to Georgetown. Lunch will be in Georgetown at the Happy Cooker or some other eatery. Return to Idaho Springs after lunch.

Slow-INT-H1-30ish Hybrid or Mountain Bike Ride SE 8:30 AM C&O CANAL TRAINING RIDE Meet Ellen Chilikas (H: 303.750.5099, C: 720.670/0296) at Dekoevand Park (just north of Arapahoe on University)  We will go south on the Highline Canal and head towards the Chatfield Dam.  Pace will be ~10 mph. Lunch afterwards for those who are interested. This is a training ride for the C&O Canal trip but is open to all club members.

September 11-12, 10:00 AM MTB P2-3, T2-3 Vedauwoo Wyoming Weekend.  Happy Jack and Pole Canyon trails.  A Laramie area campout organized by Mary Sue Dickerson, 303-771-0706. Sunday morn ride time similar.  Note:  Per August newsletter, Mary Sue desired confirmation on attending by Sept 1st.  So, check in ASAP!

FUN-H3-23 SE 10:00 AM  Tour of SE Denver Wineries. Meet Don and Marilyn Swett (303-791-5863) at Village Greens Park (north of the intersection of Union Ave. and Dayton St.) for a NEW HILLY  tour of wineries located in the Centennial/DTC/Inverness area.  We will be stopping to taste wine at Desert Moon Vineyards, Dithyramb Winery (and Meads)  and Water 2 Wine. Bring cash or plastic, and saddlebags just in case you find a wine you love!  Lunch afterwards at a nearby restaurant is an option. Please RSVP to Don Swett at  don_swett@comcast.net

INT-H2-30 W 9:30 AM  Meet Charlie Krinsky, cell 720-308-7573 at City of Cuernavaca Park (few blocks north of the downtown REI) for a brisk ride on 26th Ave. to Golden.  Stop at Higher Grounds coffee shop for a quick snack then return on 32nd Ave.  Road bikes needed for this ride. 

ROAD-H3-36 SW 9:00AM   Meet Steve Ingraham (303-756-7847) at the dirt parking lot (along the second set of railroad tracks) in Sedalia for an out-and-back ride to Larkspur. Sedalia is 8 miles south of the Santa Fe Drive exit from C-470 on Santa Fe Drive. We’ll do lunch afterwards if the group wishes.

Fun-H1-26 Central 9:00 AM Meet Wayne Tomasello (720-344-8932) at Cuenervaca Park for a ride on the Platte River Trail North to 104th street and Back. The ride is on paved bike trails. An optional lunch is at My Brothers Bar.

"Roses" H1-16 NE 9:00 AM Meet Dave Noble (303-694-2008) at EB Rains Jr. Memorial Park near 1-25 and 120th for a scenic ride on the bike paths up north to the Westminster Recreation Center and back. (Directions to EB Rains Jr. Memorial Park from I-25 and 120th: East on 120th 1-2 streets to Grant, South on Grant 1/4-1/2 mile to park, and meet in the parking lot on the south side of the lake.) Lunch afterwards

FUN-H2/H3-30 W 9:00 AM Join Patty Gaspar (303-618-5069) at the tennis bubble at S. Federal and W. Bowles – for a ride to Ken Caryl and Chatfield. Ride has some beautiful downhill. Lunch afterwards is in downtown Littleton.

Slow-INT-50 SINGLES 8:45AM SINGLES RIDE Meet Ellen Chilikas (H: 303.750.5099, C:720.670/0296) and Bruce Kohl (303-458-7322) at Lion's Park in Golden. This group will ride at 12-13 mph. We will ride over to Bear Creek Park, take the Bear Creek Trail to the Platte, go north on the Platte to REI. After taking a break at REI, Bruce will lead us through the streets of NW Denver and get us hooked back up to the Clear Creek trail for our ride back into Golden. While this is a Singles ride, couples or partnered people may join us as well.

MTB  P2-3, T2-3 10:15 AM Picnic/party ride from Lion’s Park.  Slowly work up the Chimney Gulch trails to Lookout Mountain, then work down the newly organized Apex Gulch trail system.  Jeff Baysinger 303-969-9241

LEISURER/FUN-H1-15-NW-11:30 AM  Howard Bagdad (303-278-0541) will lead a short leisure ride on the few roads in north Golden that are somewhat flat. A walking tour of the picnic area will also be available which will include the new Golden Community Garden. Walking shoes and a hat are recommended for the walking tour. 


FUN-H1-45? SE 8:00 AM Cemetentury Development.  Meet Gaar Potter (303-691-0938) at Eisenhower Park (Colorado Blvd. at Dartmouth).  Scouting is all done!  Except for what we will do now.  We will be tracing parts of the Cemetentury route pushing North to Rose Hill and blazing the connection to Riverside.  Then we will “scout” the 1st bailout on our return.  This may end up as long as 50 miles, so eat your oatmeal.

FUN/INT- H2/H3-25 SW 9:00AM  Meet John Mues (303-795-6167 [home]) in the parking lot just east of the Bear Valley McDonald's (5550 W. Dartmouth Ave.) for a ride west on the Bear Creek Trail to Morrison.  From there, we'll climb up to the Red Rocks Trading Post for a break, then return to the start via Dinosaur Ridge, Rooney Road, and Morrison Road.  Lunch is optional after the ride.

"Roses" -H2-20 SE 9:00 AM Meet Anne Layshock, 303-771-6353 at the NE corner of Parker and Quincy (park near Quincy) to the spillway, return via Tollgate and Powerline.  Bring a snack and money for a restaurant lunch following the ride.

FUN-H1-20 C 1:30 PM Equinox Happy Hour Ride Tattered Cover has great  happy hour food: half price designer pizzas, sliders, and generally great food. Meet behind the store (2526 East Colfax Avenue, Denver) at the bike racks for a 20-mile sojourn around town. Please park in the garage or on the street but not in the little parking lot behind Tattered Cover. We'll head out on the first day of fall, hoping for fall weather, and circle around back in time for excellent half price food as well as drinks. For me the attraction is the food. LEISURE/FUN-H1-18 SW 9:30 AM   In the mood for an easy-going ride today?  Meet Nadean Kruse (303-988-8186) at the STONE HOUSE at S. Estes & Yale. She will lead you on some parts of the Bear Creek and Platte River bike trails, which are paved and pretty flat.  We'll ride to Belleview Ave. for a refreshing break of ice cream (or coffee if the temp. is cool) - - & then return the same route.  Optional lunch afterwards.

INT-H2-30/40 SE 10:00 AM Meet Mary Gallagher (303 907-4621) and Charlie Greer (650-208-3326) at South High School (Franklin & Louisiana) for a ride out the Cherry Creek Reservoir via the Cherry Creek bike trail. We may do a loop or two around the park before returning via Quincy and Clarkson

INT/ROAD–H2/H3–44 SE 9:00 AM  Meet John Mues (303-795-6167 [home]) at the RTD Park & Ride at C-470 & University (SW corner of interchange) for a new ride for the club.  We’ll start by going on the C-470 & Cherry Creek trails to Parker, then switch to roads and go for a loop skirting Castle Rock to Castle Pines.  We’ll return to the start via the recently paved Daniels Park climb and Castle Pines North.  Pace of the ride should be less than 15mph due to the hills (with more in the latter half of the ride) and the leader’s relative turtle pace, but there will be maps and cue sheets handed out prior to the ride.  Lunch is optional after the ride.

FUN-H2-28 SE 9:30 AM  Meet Bob Shedd  (303-733-2815) at South High School (Louisiana & S. Franklin) parking lot. Ride on easy streets through East Denver to Stapleton. Bob has updated his time-honored route to include a stop at the new Great Lawn at Lowry.  Return by way of City Park. Lunch is optional afterwards.

FUN-H1.5- 20/25 N  9:30 AM Meet Richard Quick (303-466-4008) at Wall Mart Located at 200 W 136th Ave. near the north west corner of the parking lot. We will do an out and back on the Dry Creek Trail. This is a soft surface trail that I have ridden on with my touring bike and did OK. Lunch after?

INT-H3-30 NE 9:00 AM Meet Carol Kennedy clikinstix@msn.com 720-289-9569, at the Platte River trail on 88th and Colorado for a ride up and down the hills of Northglenn, Westminster and Thornton . We'll be on the Platte River trail briefly before heading northwest on the Niver Creek trail, through the backstreets of Northglenn to the Farmer's Highline Canal trail. We'll depart from the trail for some hills, joining the Big Dry Creek, Thorn Creek and Signal Ditch trails before summiting Homestead Hills Park NE of 136th and Colorado (best view of Thornton). From there we return to the trailhead via Holly Street.

FUN/INT-H1/H2-31 S 9:30  C&O CANAL TRAINING RIDE - Meet Ellen Chilikas (h: 303-750-5099, c: 720-670-0296) and  Dave Noble (h: 303-694-2008, c: 303-906-3163) to ride the  historic Santa Fe trail from Palmer Lake through the Air Force Academy and back. Cross or mountain bikes suggested - it's a pea gravel trail with some sandy places. Directions  to starting point: Take I-25 past Larkspur to exit 163. Take County Line Road/Palmer Divide Road west to Palmer Lake.  Turn left into Palmer Lake trailhead parking lot  just before the railroad track and Palmer Lake itself.  Allow a half-hour past Castle Rock to drive to starting point or 45 minutes from I-225 and I-25.  Bring extra water  - none is available on the ride.  Lunch afterwards in Palmer Lake or nearby. This is a training ride for the C&O Canal trip but is open to all club members.

MTB P2-3, T2-3 10:00 AM Nederland adventures!  In the land of communes.  Marvel at fall colors while riding the West Magnolia trails with Laurie Armijo, 303-717-7676.  Dine on Nepalese food afterwards at Katmandu Restaurant.  Carpool meet 9:00 AM at Cold Spring PNR, otherwise go directly to trailhead just south of Nederland.

"Roses" H2 18 NW 9:00 AM Meet Robert Munns, 303-255-6063, where Quivas ends at the NW open space recreation area.  (Take 104 west from I-25, north on Quivas to the end.  Quivas is the 3rd right past Huron.)  This is Robert's first time leading for the Roses!  Bring a snack and money for a restaurant lunch following the ride.

FUN-H2-@25SW 9:30 Meet Patty Gaspar – 303-618-5069 at the Tennis Bubble at Bowles and Federal for a ride to Chatfield onto Roxbourgh for lunch at Arrowhead Golf Course. We haven’t done this ride in a long time and since I’m filling in the schedule I don’t really know how far it is. There is one really steep hill at the end, but the rest are pretty gentle.
