JULY 2018 RIDE SCHEDULE

Sunday, July 1st: 

9:30 AM FUN PLUS–H2–25–NE -- Meet Lise Neer (303-249-8621) at Cake Crumbs bakery (2216 Kearney St. in Park Hill). Ride will go south on Krameria Street to Crestmoor Park, then west along Bayaud and zig-zag to Franklin and south past Wash Park. We’ll take Dartmouth to the Platte trail then head north for a coffee stop at REI. The way home will be on quiet Sunday streets thru downtown, past the ballpark (Rockies are away) and back to Park Hill via 26th Ave. Here’s the route on MapMyRide.com: South loop & REI from Crumbs. Optional lunch afterward at Cake Crumbs, or the Chop Shop at Colfax & Elm. Come early for coffee, and be ready to ride by 9:30 sharp. Bring plenty of water and dress for the heat!! 


Monday, July 2nd: 

9:00 AM FUN-H1-30-SE – Meet Wayne Tomasello (720-854-8767) at Challenger Park on Lincoln Ave. near Jordan Rd. for a ride on the Cherry Creek Trail, south to Franktown and back. Most of this ride in on paved bike trails with some dirt road riding. Lunch after the ride, TBA. 


Tuesday, July 3rd:

Optional lunch afterward at Cake Crumbs, or the Chop Shop at Colfax & Elm. Come early for coffee, and be ready to ride by 9:15 sharp. 


Wednesday, July 4th: 

10:00 AM FUN-H2-25 West RED WHITE and BLUE Ride 8:45 carpool from Wooly Mammoth Parking lot - SW corner of I-70 and Morrison Road. Meet Linda Wheeler behind Beau Jos for a ride to Georgetown. We’ll celebrate the 4th (and maybe find an ice cream shop while we are at it) and any gonzos are welcome to continue up the hill toward Silver Plume. As a reward for your climb up to Georgetown, you can coast back to Idaho Springs. Lunch in Idaho Springs. 

10:00 AM Leisure H2 W Let’s put a little Green in the Red, White and Blue ride! Join Lin Hark (303-578- 9369) for a slower paced ride from Idaho Springs to Georgetown. This ride is a gentle elevation gain of about 1,000 feet. It is an out and back so you can make your own distance and turn around whenever you think you are half tired and hope the wind will be at your back on the way down! FUN downhill! This is one of the easiest mountain rides you will find. Lunch in Idaho Springs. 


Thursday, July 5th: 

6:00 PM FUN-H1-18-SE Meet Dick Shelton (720-934-9824) at Treads Bicycle Outfitters, 16701 E Iliff Ave, Aurora, 80013. We’ll ride around Cherry Creek State Park and return to Peak to Peak Brewery for snacks and drinks. 


Friday, July 6th: 

1:00 PM FUN PLUS-H1/2-15 to 20, SW - Brewery Ride to 38 State Brewery. Meet Ellen Chilikas (outdoorsdiva@yahoo.com) at Riverside Downs Park (2600 W Belleview Ave, Littleton, CO 80123) on the north west corner of Santa Fe and Prince near the Pedal Bike Shop in Littleton. Park on the far east side of the parking lot across from 24 Hour Fitness. We will ride south on the Platte and then east on the bike lane on Mineral. This is about 6 miles. On the way back, you can either return the same way or add 5-6 more miles by taking the unpaved Highline Canal to the Big Dry Creek trail. The brewery is celebrating their 4 year anniversary. They have the following beers on tap: IPA, Blonde, Belgian, Red, Brown, Rye and Barley. Leader will bring a bag of pretzels and July 2018 Ride Schedule 11 there are also nearby restaurants. Please bring a bike lock and as always wear your helmet! Please be ready to ride by 1pm! THIS IS A FAIR WEATHER RIDE - temp must be 50 and pavement must be dry for the ride to be a go. 


Saturday, July 7th: 

7:30 AM FUN-H2+-31-NW-+1311’ Early meet to beat the heat! Rain-out Reschedule and Birthday Ride (I’ll bring the bubbly): “Golden Triangle* Progressive (no lollipop) Loop 3 of 3”. Meet Marilyn Choske (39 yrs old-- again!) (303-905-8510), at Anderson Park in Wheat Ridge, 44th & Field St., back parking lot. Ride west on Clear Creek Trail (CCT) to Golden with possible Starbucks stop--courtesy of DBTC, then retrace north on bikepath and Hwy 93 to 58th Ave. Connect to Van Bibber & Ralston Creek Trails, over Blunn Reservoir, RCT to CCT west to Anderson Park. Comfy 10-14 mph pace. Climbs with fun, earned downhills! *Golden Triangle is Wheat Ridge, Golden, Arvada.


10:00 AM, MTB, P2, T1, North Fork Trail, JEFFCO Open Space Reynolds Park - THE RIDE: Meet Eric Esswein (720-693-1656) for a ride on the North Fork Trail created in 2014. The ride will be approximately 13 miles on single track, gravel road and asphalt road (S. Foxton Road). Meet in the Reynolds Open Space parking lot around 9:40 for the start at 10:00 am. We’ll cross the road from the parking lot and go up Hummingbird trail (0.8 miles) to access the start of the North Fork trail. Hummingbird is very steep, there may be some that can ride the whole way up but it’s less exhausting to ride up as far as you prefer and hike-a-bike the rest of the way. Real fun begins as we ride the North Fork Trail, it’s flowy, mostly descending single track with some slight elevation gains. We will ride to the end of the N. Fork Trail (9.6 miles) and return via the gravel road along the N. Fork of the South Platte River to the intersection of S. Foxton Road (paved) and ride it and back up to Reynolds Park. THE DIRECTIONS: Drive west on Hwy 285, to Conifer, as you pass the “Staples Shopping Center” (Tres Margaritas restaurant, Evergreen Mountain Sports, Staples, O’Reilly Auto Parts and other stores) take the immediate next exit to Foxton Road/Kennedy Gulch. Turn left at the stop sign and go under Hwy 285, then turn left at next stop sign down S. Foxton Road. Drive 5.6 miles down S. Foxton Road; Reynolds Park is on the right side of the road. THE FOOD: Bring snacks, drinks and chairs for after the ride socializing at the park. Ride notes: you may want to bring arm warmers or ride in a long sleeve shirt as vegetation (including thistle) grows quite close along parts of the trail and has a tendency to slap your arm. Descending along the trail is flowy and fast, be aware that riders/hikers may be ascending. 


Sunday, July 8th: 

9:00 AM FUN PLUS-H2-25-NW NEW & IMPROVED WESTMINSTER CLASSIC. Meet Jeff Krinsky (720-373- 9107) for this exciting ride full of unexpected twists, turns, and surprises...and now with BRAND NEW TRAILS! We will meet at the parking lot WEST of the baseball diamonds in Westminster City Park. (Directions: From US 36 and Church Ranch Blvd/104th Ave. exit, east on 104th about 1/2 mile to the first left after the Westminster Blvd light, then go LEFT again into the parking lot. The address for the park is 10455 Sheridan Blvd but note again that we are meeting WEST of the buildings and baseball fields.) This ride takes us through the Westminster, Northglenn, and Thornton area, including the Farmer’s Highline Canal, Lee Lateral, and Grange Hall Creek trails. 


Monday, July 9th: 

9:00 AM FUN-H2-18-SW Meet Wayne Tomasello (720-854-8767) at the Platte River Grill located at 5995 Santa Fe Drive. From C-470 take Santa Fe Dr. exit going north for about 3 Miles. The Platte River Grill is on the left (West) side. Enter the parking lot and drive to the rear of the restaurant and park towards the rear of the lot. We will ride the Platte River trail north to the Big Dry Creek trail to the Highline Canal Trail to the Lee Gulch trail. The ride is on paved and gravel bike trails. An optional lunch is at the Platte River Grill. 


Tuesday, July 10th:

10:30 AM, MTB, P2-3, T2-3, Elk Meadow (Show’nGo) – Meet in the Buchanan Recreation Center parking lot. THE DIRECTIONS: Located at intersection of Colo Hwy 74 (Evergreen Parkway) and Squaw Pass (Colo Hwy 103). From I-70: Take exit 252 for Evergreen Parkway. Continue for roughly 3 miles to intersection of 74 and 103. Turn left at traffic light; Buchanan Park rec center and Tuscany Tavern are located in this complex adjacent to the softball fields. From downtown Evergreen, follow Hwy 74 up to intersection of 74 and 103. Or load directions to 32003 Ellingwood Trail, Evergreen 80439. THE FOOD: Tuscany Tavern. 


Wednesday, July 11th: 

7:30 AM FUN-H2+-37-NW-+900’ Beat the Heat! Join Marilyn Choske (303-905-8510), at Anderson Park in Wheat Ridge, 44th & Field St., back parking lot near big pavilion. Experience the sights, sounds, and, yes--smells-- as you ride this NW Denver urban adventure LOOP ride. We’ll head south, east, north, and west, back to our start. Trails are Weir, Sanderson, Platte, Clear Creek, and some light road riding, most with bike lanes. Construction? Who knows? It’s always a surprise! Starbucks stop, compliments of DBTC, at the Confluence. Comfy 10-14 mph pace. 

9:00 AM FUN PLUS-H1-20 to 25 SW. Meet Patsy Venema at the Stone House, 2900 S. Estes, Lakewood to ride Bear Creek and the Platte River. 

9:30 AM Leisure H1/H2-17 NE Meet Dave Noble (home 303-694-2008, cell 303-906-3163) for a ride on the Farmer’s Highline, Signal Ditch, and Lee Lateral bike trails and then through Eastlake Park. Lunch will follow at Cinzzetti’s restaurant. (Directions to start: From I-25 and 104th – exit 221 – go west and take first north/right turn into the Marketplace Shopping Center. Drive north to rear of shopping center and park in front of Cinzzetti’s).

Saturday, July 14th Summer Picnic Lion’s Park in Golden 

9:00 AM Leisure H1/H2 10 NW Meet Richard Giesler (303.722.1475) for a leisure, slow rolling ride of 10 miles along Golden’s bike paths. Possible short steep walking sections next to US6 then downhill to possible stop at Coors’ tasting room. 9 am at Lions Park in Golden. Richard leads this exploring, no-riders-dropped ride with story potential. Bring your ID for tasting room. 

8:00 AM FUN-H2+-25-NW-+1233’ Meet 08:00am Roll 08:15am Beat the Heat & Calorie-Burn Ride--make room for Picnic goodies! Join Marilyn Choske (303-905-8510) at Lions Park in Golden for this somewhat leisure LOOP ride that includes Van Bibber, Ralston Creek, Clear Creek trails, and some bike-friendly road/street riding. Yep, we’ll Battle the Blunn (reservoir), too! Enjoy diverse riding conditions and views along the way. 10-14 mph pace. Possible distance increase TBD by time and rider consensus. 

9:00 AM FUN PLUS-H2+-21 NW– Meet Jeff Krinsky (720-373-9107) for this brand new adventure, The Hidden Gems of Golden. We will meet at Lions Park at 10th and Maple in Golden and ride the Golden Circle and beyond to Heritage Park and other unexplored areas. 

9:00 AM, MTB P2, T1.5, South Table Mountain (Show’nGo) – Meet at Camp George West, 1219 Kilmer Street, Golden, CO 80401. The trail on the east side of the fields will take you past NREL and to the dirt trails of South Table. DIRECTIONS: From downtown Golden go southeast on Jackson Street and continue on South Golden Road to Kilmer Street. Take a left on Kilmer and go straight to the end the Camp George West ball fields. From 13 I-70 exit east onto Colfax and turn left onto Indiana. You’ll go back underneath I-70 after which you will go left on South Golden Road. Turn right onto Kilmer Street and continue to the end at Camp George West. THE FOOD: After the ride go to the DBTC picnic at Lions Park by heading west on South Golden Road which continues on Ford Street. Take a left onto 10th Street and continue until you reach Lions Park. Sunday, July 15th: 

8:00 AM FUN PLUS-H2-29 SE Meet Ellen Fitzpatrick (720-209-2269) at the Southeast corner of Parker Road and Orchard in Aurora near the Doug’s Day Diner and Benjamin Moore. We will ride on the Piney Creek Trail east and connect onto various trails out to Aurora Reservoir. We will loop the 8 miles around the reservoir and stop briefly at the snack shop at the beach, and return back to our start. Let’s have lunch after at the Diner. 


Monday, July 16th: 

9:00 AM FUN-H1-28-NWMeet Wayne Tomasello (720-854-8767) at a parking lot on W. 68 Ave and Santa Fe Dr. near the intersection of Broadway and W. 70th Ave. Go west on W. 70th to Santa Fe dr. and go south to the end. The parking lot is on the right. We will ride on the Clear Creek Trail to the Ralston Creek Trail to the Westwood golf course and back. The ride is on paved bike trails with some street riding. An optional lunch is at Mickey’s Top Sirloin.

Exit at Barkley Road and go left onto Barkley for a half-mile to County Road 73. Go right on County Road 73 for about three-fourths of a mile to the Flying J Ranch Park sign. 9:30 AM FUN PLUS-H2-28-SE Meet Les Avery (720-219-5247) at Village Greens Park – NE corner of Union and Dayton for a loop ride from the park through Denver and Aurora on trails and then a lap around the reservoir on our return. Lunch, of course. 

9:00 AM Leisure H1/H2 10-20 NW Meet Richard Gieseler (303-722-1475) for a 10-20 mile ride on north Platte River trail out and back at City of Cuernavaca Park 0.6 mile northwest of REI downtown. Richard will show the north Platte bike path and how to bike to hip new millennial haunts in Rino and downtown. Optional lunch or snack at an authentic Mexican bakery in Globeville. Ride is reprise of a four person tour in April.

Leader will bring a bag of pretzels and there are also nearby restaurants. Please bring a bike lock and as always wear your helmet! Please be ready to ride by 1pm! Saturday, July 21st: 

9:00 AM FUN-H2-21-9 SE Meet Dave Noble 303-694-2008, 303-906-3163 cell, by Bronco Parkway and Tagawa Gardens park and ride to ride the Cherry Creek, Tallman, and Sulphur Gulch trails. There’ll be a yogurt or cupcake snack stop in Parker before returning. 

10:30 AM, MTB P2.5, T2.5, Alderfer/3 Sisters Park Evergreen. Meet Dick Plastino (303-988-5359). THE RIDE: We ride most of the trails in the park, but only go part way up Evergreen Mountain and then do some quiet neighborhood trails. We also do an out and back on Dedesse which you can skip if you want to lower the technical down to a 2.0. DIRECTIONS: From the traffic signal in downtown Evergreen, go south on Hwy 73 onethird mile to the traffic signal at Buffalo Park Rd. Turn right and travel 2.8 miles to the upper gravel parking lot just past the yellow house on your right. You will pass by the lower paved lot with a sign designating the name of the park. Don’t park there - - continue up the hill. FOOD: Bring snacks and a chair for a parking lot picnic. NOTE: The parking lot will probably be full, so park along LeMasters Rd. and then after the ride is over we can all move our cars to the parking lot which should then be mostly empty. We’ll then gather for our picnic. 


Sunday, July 22nd:

Monday, July 23rd: 

9:00 AM FUN-H1-30 SE Meet Wayne Tomasello (720-854-8767) at the Original Brooklyn’s 2644 W Colfax Ave, Denver, CO 80204 (from I-25 take the Colfax exit west to Federal Blvd. go South on Federal to the next light at W Howard place and go left. The ride is on the Platte river trail to the Cherry Creek trail to the Highline Canal to Dartmouth St. to the Platte River trail. It is a ride mostly on paved bike path with some street riding. An optional lunch is at the Original Brooklyn’s.


July 23rd thru July 25th – Indian Creek Campout and Mountain Bike Rides Darrell Deering will host our Indian Creek Campout again this year. I will be camping Monday July 23 and Tuesday July 24 night with mountain bike rides on Tuesday July 24 and Wednesday July 25. The Indian Creek Campground, Pike National Forest, is about 12 miles west of Sedalia on Hwy 67. Sedalia is located on Santa Fe / Hwy 85 about 10 miles south from C470. Hiking is available for those that just want to enjoy the area on parts of the same trails. On Tuesday we will ride the 800 trail loop with an overlook of Waterton Canyon on the north loop. Wednesday we will ride again on the 800 trail for about 1 mile then head east on the Ringtail Trail into 15 Douglas Co. Open space and enter the south end of Roxborough State Park and return on the 800 trail to the parking lot. Camping is limited and has no reservations. For those who are not camping, bring snacks after the ride and gather around our campsite. For each biker/hiker who wants to camp, arrive Monday afternoon to get a campsite. For those who want to do a shorter ride please come. This is a great area to see the Pike National Forest. For those driving up for the day there is a small charge for parking at the Indian Creek Camp parking lot. Travelling on the Farmer’s Ditch to Legacy Ridge Golf Course down to the Big Dry Creek Trail and to the State Park and return. Directions: Northbound on I-25 to 104th left to Marketplace Shopping area; then right first turn travelling about a block next to Lowe’s. Optional lunch at the restaurant weekday prices. (Trail is mostly paved with good gravel/dirt below the dam hill.) 

10:00 AM, MTB, P3, T3, Indian Creek – 800 Trail. Indian Creek Ride is about 12 miles west of Sedalia on Hwy 67 with parking at the camping parking lot. We will ride the 800 Trail loop with an overlook of Waterton Canyon on the north loop. A map will be available. Bring snacks and chairs for after the ride. 7:30 AM FUN PLUS-H3-32-NW-+1786’ Meet 07:15am, Roll 07:30am Join Marilyn Choske (303-905-8510) at Crown Hill Park, 26th & Garland in Wheat Ridge, for this ambitious leg-burner, heart-pumping LOOP ride. Climb to Golden via Clear Creek Tr, then on neighborhood trail to W. Colfax to Hwy 8 and into Morrison. Bring $$ for possible lunch at Morrison Inn (we’re more than 1/2-way). 9:30 AM FUN PLUS-H1-30 SE Meet Patty Gaspar (303-618-5069) at the Original Brooklyn’s 2644 W Colfax Ave, Denver, CO 80204 for a ride on the Platte River Trail to the Cherry Creek Trail to the Highline Canal then DOWN Dartmouth. Lunch is at the Original Brooklyn’s. I loved this ride when I did it with Wayne on a Monday. DIRECTIONS: from I-25 take the Colfax exit west to Federal Blvd.; go South on Federal to the next light at W Howard place; then go left. Go to the end and take a left onto Morrison Road and stay right to the parking lot of 13 the restaurant. Or ask your GPS. 

8:30 AM Leisure H1-20 Meet Lin Hark (303-578-9369) at the Littleton Tennis Bubble for a ride through Littleton and Englewood. This ride is partly on streets, bike paths, and has some gravel paths. Bring a snack and money for an optional lunch at Merle’s Restaurant in downtown Littleton after the ride. 

9:30 AM, MTB, P3, T3, Indian Creek – Ringtail Trail. Indian Creek Ride is about 12 miles west of Sedalia on Hwy 67 with parking at the camping parking lot. We will ride the Ringtail Trail in to Douglas Open Space, into the south end of Roxborough State Park and return on the 800 Trail. The Ringtail Trail is located about 1 mile from the Indian Campground on the 800 Trail. A map will be available. Bring snacks and chair for after the ride. 6:00 PM FUN-H1-18-SE Meet Dick Shelton (720-934-9824) at Treads Bicycle Outfitters, 16701 E Iliff Ave, Aurora, 80013. We’ll ride around Cherry Creek State Park and return to Peak to Peak Brewery for snacks and drinks. 


Friday, July 27th: 

11:30 AM (WAS 2:00 PM) FUN PLUS-H1/2-20ish Brewery Ride to Caution Brewing Co. Meet Ellen Chilikas (outdoorsdiva@ yahoo.com) at Riverside Downs Park (2600 W Belleview Ave, Littleton, CO 80123) on the north west corner of Santa Fe and Prince near the Pedal Bike Shop in Littleton. Park on the far east side of the parking lot across from 24 Hour Fitness. We will ride north on the Platte, west on the Bear Creek trail and then take streets with bike lanes. The brewery got it’s start in Fort Collins and wound up in Lakewood in 2012. Their goal is to provide uniquely balanced beers made with fresh ingredients and inspired by the culinary arts. Leader will bring a bag of pretzels and there are also nearby restaurants. Please bring a bike lock and as always wear your helmet! Please be ready to ride by 2pm! THIS IS A FAIR WEATHER RIDE - temp must be 50 and pavement must be dry for the ride to be a go. 


Saturday, July 28th: 

9:00 AM FUN PLUS H2-20 SE Meet Ellen Fitzpatrick (720-209-2269) at Reynolds Park Landing (South Santa Fe Drive and west on Brewery Lane). This will be a circle trip riding half road, half paved bike path, starting north on the Platte trail, then east on Little Dry next to Dartmouth heading uphill to Dahlia. Then proceeding south onto Happy Canyon and west onto Quincy, and finally some downhill to Clarkson. From there south to catch Big Dry Trail to the Platte and back south to the start. Lunch after on the patio at Angelos. 

10:00 AM, MTB, P3, T2, Tipperary Creek Loop. Meet Alison Preble (720-854-9923, ajbikes@yahoo.com) for a 16-mile loop ride (1,500 ft. elevation gain) on the super smooth singletrack trails west of Fraser. Ride starts with a gentle warm-up, followed by a significant climb to just over 10,000 ft., finishing up with a quick downhill through a variety of stunning landscapes with mind blowing views. DIRECTIONS: I70 west to exit 232 (highway 40). Continue north on 40 up and over Berthoud Pass and through Winter Park and travel four miles from Winter Park to the small town of Fraser. In Fraser, turn left on Eisenhower Dr., go over the railroad tracks, and turn immediately left again on Leonard Ln. Stay on Leonard Ln. until it turns sharply to the right and becomes Mill Ave., which soon becomes CR 73 (St. Louis Creek Rd.). Continue on Mill Ave./CR73 for just under a mile to where the pavement becomes a dirt road. Park at the Givelo trailhead on your right. This is where we will start and end the ride. Refuel at The Crooked Creek Saloon in Fraser before heading back to Denver. 


Sunday, July 29th: 

9:30 AM FUN-H2-22-SW Meet Bob Shedd (720-290-6014) at the RTD Littleton Downtown Station, in the northwest quadrant of the parking lot located at Alamo Avenue & Prince Street. Ride will go south and west on the paved Dutch Creek Path and side streets that Bob has scouted in the Columbine and Ken Caryl areas, and includes a climb up to the dam at Chatfield State Park. Optional lunch afterward at Merle’s Restaurant on Main Street, within 3 blocks of the starting location. 


Monday, July 30th: 

9:00 AM FUN-H2-20-SW Meet Wayne Tomasello (720-854-8767) at SW corner of Kipling and Jewell, Lakewood, at Safeway Shopping Center for a ride on the Bear Creek Trail to the Platte River Trail to the Sanderson Gulch Trail. An optional lunch is at CafĂ© Jordano. 


Tuesday, July 31st 

10:30 AM, MTB, Staunton State Park. Dick Plastino (303-988-5359) is leading the ride. There are many trails from P2, T2 all the way to P3.5, T3.5. Prior to the ride, I’ll send out an email with choices asking which level of ride you would like if you think you are coming and then I’ll have a map prepared for you with that ride highlighted. The trails are very well marked so you’ll not get lost. FEE: $7 per vehicle at the entrance gate. DIRECTIONS: Take US Highway 285 south to Shaffers Crossing, about 6 miles west of Conifer. The actual off ramp sign from Hwy 285 says, “Shaffers Crossing/ Elk Creek Road. It’s 30 minutes from the intersection of Hwy 285 and Kipling to 17 the parking lot. Turn north on Elk Creek Road and follow the signs 1.5 miles to the park entrance. A couple of hundred feet past the park fee station, make a sharp right and go down to the smaller parking lot. FOOD: Bring snacks and a chair for a parking lot picnic. There is even a picnic table. 


Thursday, August 2nd: 

9:15AM FUN PLUS–H2–22-ish NE -- Meet Lise Neer (303-249-8621) at Cake Crumbs bakery (2216 Kearney St. in Park Hill). Ride will either go south on Krameria Street to the Cherry Creek trail, then southeast to join the Highline and loop back around Lowry (either thru Fairmount Cem. or farther East) and return to Park Hill along 17th Ave., part of which is newly paved! OR: we’ll ride East to Stapleton, south to Lowry and get on the Highline Canal Trail until we hit the Cherry Creek trail. We may ride all the way downtown to REI for a snack stop, or head back north to Park Hill via Krameria or Steele St. (Ride route & length will vary depending on the group’s whims.) Optional lunch afterward at Cake Crumbs, or the Chop Shop at Colfax & Elm. Come early for coffee, and be ready to ride by 9:15 sharp.
