May 2025 DBTC Ride Schedule 


Thursday, May 1st:

10:30 am NE FUN/ FUN Plus H1 - 24 miles Twin Lakes to Sand Creek and Northfield Loop Meet Fred Tarbell (630-888-5290) at Twin Lakes 300 70th Ave Denver (1/8 mi West of 53 and 224) We will ride East on Clear Creek trail to South Platte trail junction. Turn right over Clear Creek bridge to Denver. Follow Platte bike path South to the Sand Creek trail junction on the left. Follow Sand Creek trail to the Sand Creek Greenway and do a big loop around urban Central Park.  At 13 miles a mid ride stop at Starbucks for bathroom and refreshment.  After our break we continue along Central Park Blvd to the North Field Mall.  We extend our ride by another loop around urban Prairie Basin and Meadow Basin Parks. Return on Sand Creek to Twin Lakes for recovery, socializing, and lunch that you brought. Bring money for your Starbucks break.


Friday, May 2nd:

10:00 AM FUN-H2-21-NW MAJESTIC PREMIERE RIDE Meet Jeff Krinsky (720-373-9107) at the Majestic View Park north parking lot (north on Wadsworth to W 72nd Ave, west on 72nd, just west of Carr on the south side. THIS IS NOT THE ENTRANCE at GARRISON ST. nor 71st ST!) This recently enhanced ride will go west on Ridge Road and van Bibber Creek Trail, north on the new Blunn Trail and then return on most of the length of Ralston Creek Trail. The theme of this ride is a “Hello to spring” so a surprise to ring in the 2025 biking season will be provided to all participants during the Ralston Creek Golf Course break!


Saturday, May 3rd:

10:30 AM FUN PLUS-H1-36 miles (18 miles each way) SW Chatfield State Park to Sedalia. Return the same way with a small lollipop loop through Louviers. Some bike path through State Park and designated bike lanes on roads through Sterling Ranch subdivision. Break in Sedalia at a coffee shop/bakery and return. Meet Janet Martel (303-929-5950) at Deer Creek Day Use Parking lot INSIDE Park Entrance.  This is the first large parking lot.  If you don't have a park pass, you can park on Deer Creek Canyon Rd. right of the stoplight at Wadsworth and ride into the park to meet.  Restrooms available.  In case our parking lot is closed for repair I will note an alternate parking lot.  Some of these lots have been closed temporarily over the winter for mitigation and construction.


Sunday, May 4th:

9:30 AM FUN-H1-24-30 NE.   ROCKY MOUNTAIN ARSENAL RIDE. Meet Cyndy Klepinger (303.725.1565)  at Cake Crumbs, 2216 Kearney. We’ll ride city streets north to the Sand Creek Trail, ride toward the Northfield area and Rocky Mountain Arsenal.  We will return by way of bike lanes and Central Park Greenway trails.  Pace will be 12 to 14 mph.  Ride limited to 10 riders, to reserve a spot, text Cyndy at 303.725.1565.  Will have the opportunity to get a snack at Cake Crumbs after the ride. All rides are weather permitting,  Check Meetup posting if you are not sure if a ride is a go or not.

STAR WARS DAY RIDE!!!! (MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU)                    9:30 AM FUN-H2-18/23-NW- Meet Jeff Krinsky (720-373-9107) for THE SPACE, TIME, 9/11 RIDE or THE HIDDEN GEMS OF BROOMFIELD! This Star Wars adventure begins near the SE corner of Sheridan and 120th at the new Whole Foods in Westminster (1/2 mile east of Sheridan at Vrain and 120th.) Address is 4451 Main Street. Wear your favorite Star Wars shirt as we take secret trails around Broomfield and Westminster where we will experience three incredible hidden displays including THE SOLAR SYSTEM, a brief history of GEOLOGIC COLORADO TIME, and a 9/11 MONUMENT. (This ride has an escape option at the 18 mile marker for riders who run out of time and/or steam.) Possible lunch afterwards at Whole Foods. This adventure has received rave reviews with 4 and a half stars from the ride critics!

9:00 AM Leisure H2-16 SW Ride 1st 1/4 of Highline Canal (all gravel!).  Meet Karen Kelley  (303-260-9029) at  Fly'n B Park   2910 Plaza Dr. Highlands Ranch  to leave cars with bike racks and drive the other cars with the bikes to the start of the Highline Canal in Waterton Canyon.

9:30 AM FUN - H2to3-22 miles SW Meet Patty Gaspar (303-618-5069) at the Sheridan Library Parking lot west of Federal and Oxford.  We’ll head toward the rebuilt Bow Mar area and go to Bowles Lake, Grant Ranch to Wadsworth and back to Sheridan High School.  We’ll ride some hills and lots of ups and downs, some beautiful quiet streets and pleasant bike paths.  Lunch is at Monaghan’s Bar and Grill 3889 S King St. There used to be a tunnel from there to Fort Logan so the soldiers could sneak out.

10:00 AM FUN-H1-25 miles NE Twin Lakes to Riverdale Veterans Memorial Meet Fred Tarbell (630-888-5290) at 300 West 70th Ave, (1/8 mi West of Broadway and 70th)  Bike East on Clear Creek to junction of Platte River Trail.  Turn North on Platte River trail toward Riverdale Regional Park area. We will exit off Platte River trail to the entrance of the Adams County Veterans Memorial.  We will take our break for restrooms and snacks while we view and explore the architectural design of the Veterans Memorial.  We will return by the same route to Twin Lakes.  Bring lunch items or snacks if you stay to visit after the ride.


Friday, May 9th;

NEW RIDE

9:00 AM FUN PLUS-H2-24-SE KRISPY KREME DONUT RIDE Meet Susan Larson (720-207-7300) at Arapahoe Road Trailhead (.2 miles east on Arapahoe Rd from the Arapahoe Rd and S. Jordan Rd intersection) for a fun ride along the Cherry Creek Trail south to the E470 Trail where we’ll turn and go west. We’ll ride over the bridges at S. Yosemite Street and Acres Green Drive making a stop at Krispy Kreme. Bring money for a donut and/or beverage. We’ll ride back on the same route. No need for lunch after the ride as we’ll all be full of donuts!

9:30 AM INT H4 36.8 miles SW 3343' elev gain. Meet Sandra Huzyk (303-807-1308) at Stonehouse Park for this loop ride through Dinosaur Ridge, Mt. Vernon Canyon, the Paradise neighborhood, the backside of Lookout: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/50585556

11:00 AM ATB gravel or mountain bikes-H1-16 to 18 miles SW West Platte River RD. Meet Janet Martel (303-929-5950) at Jefferson County Road 96 Directions.  From US HWY 285.  Turn SOUTH on Jefferson County road  97 towards Reynolds Park.  Follow road thru Reynolds Park to T intersection along Platte River. There is a Fisherman's Parking Lot along the River.  If you need a restroom break I suggest you stop in Reynolds Park along the way.  The out house at the meeting parking lot has variable conditions. We will ride a combined paved/dirt road to a picnic area along the river for snacks and return the same way.  This is an historic route and will cross the Colorado trail. 


Sunday, May 11th:

9:30 AM FUN H2–20 - Downtown Meet Jeff Krinsky (720-373-9107) for this Mother's Day Mother's Appreciation Beverage Ride that is designed for both mothers and anyone who has or has had a mother. We will meet at the City of Cuernavaca Park downtown (Exit at 20th Ave going east away from the mountains. Turn right over the bridge onto Little Raven, then turn right onto 19th Street, then right onto Platte River which becomes Rockmont Drive, and go until you dead end into the parking lot at the large bike statue.) for this fantastic ride down the Cherry Creek Bike Path towards the Cherry Creek Reservoir and back. Remember that a beverage of your choice will be provided to all mothers and non-mothers alike at the break at the REI Starbucks on the return voyage. THIS RIDE WILL START YOUR MOTHER'S DAY OFF WITH A BANG! 


Monday, May 12th:

Santa Fe Dr) for a ride south on the South Platte Trail to Chatfield State Park, where we will ride over the dam to the marina via the road.  After a break, we will return via the same route.  Bring a sack lunch for a picnic afterward.


Wednesday, May 14th:

9:00 AM LEISURE H1-17-NW. Meet Jake Jacobi (720-808-2306) at Twin Lakes, near Broadway and 70th Ave. We will ride east on Clear Creek, and North along the Platte River to Valente Lake at 104th and return. Optional lunch afterwards.

9:30 AM FUN -H2/H3-24 SW Pie in the sky? Meet Patty Gaspar (303-618-5069) Granny Scott’s Pie Shop (3333 S Wadsworth Blvd.). We’ll pay our respects to the goddess and then head west to Kipling then over to the C470 trail. There is a great downhill back to Lowell and Bear Valley. Lunch at the pie shop.


NEW RIDE

10:00 AM MTB P2 T2 Dawson Butte Open Space in Douglas County.   Meet Steve Farley 303-437-5442 (text is best), at the Open Space trailhead for a couple of laps of the trail system.  A ride of five miles each lap.  The area is mostly forested terrain of rolling hills and open meadow.  Respect wildlife as elk, bears, mountain lions and other species call this home.  All riders must sign-in at the start of the ride.

Directions to the trailhead, 1753 Tomah Road.  From Castle Rock go south on I-25, take the west Plum Creek exit and head south five miles on the Frontage Road; at Tomah Rd., go right-west-for 1.5 miles to the Dawson Butte Ranch entrance on the right. (SEE BELOW FOR UPDATED DIRECTIONS!!!)

Post ride Bring a chair and lunch/snacks for after ride socializing in the parking lot under the trees.

UPDATED DIRECTIONS: There is road construction on the I-25 and Plum Creek exit frontage road.  Two new direction options are:

From Denver head south on I 25 past Castle Rock, continue past Plum Creek exit and continue south to Tomah Road- exit number mile 174.  Take the frontage road on the west side of I 25, go right-north until you get to Tomah road, turn left-west for 1.5 miles to the Dawson Butte trailhead.

Alternate route: Take 105 south out of Sedalia to Tomah Road then east to the trailhead.


Thursday, May 15th:

10:00 AM ATB/H2. The Dirty Chatfield Gravel Ride. 34 miles, (75% gravel, 25% bike path/ road) with 1200 feet of climbing. Gravel tires or MTB needed.  Meet Lauren Delle  (970-903-8409) in the Waterton Canyon parking lot, Wadsworth Blvd south past Chatfield, turn left on Waterton Road, take entrance to the parking lot on the left. We will ride gravel/paved paths around, over and back around Chatfield, connecting with the Highline Canal trail and end with a ride up Waterton Canyon to the dam and back to cars. Pretty scenery with wildlife sightings  Bring sack lunch and chairs for post-ride lunch. Water and restrooms available.  Ride limited to 8 riders, text RSVP to 970-903-8409 by Wednesday, May 14. 

NEW RIDE

10:00 AM FUN PLUS-H2-26-SE Tallman Gulch and Sulphur Gulch with a stop at Fika Coffee House Meet Susan Larson (720-207-7300) at Arapahoe Road Trailhead (.2 miles east on Arapahoe Rd from the Arapahoe Rd and S. Jordan Rd intersection) for a ride south on the Cherry Creek Trail into Parker and on to the Tallman Gulch Trail. We’ll stop for a break at Fika Coffee House before continuing on through neighborhoods until we reach the Sulpher Gulch trail. We’ll ride that until it connects to the Cherry Creek trail and head back to our starting point. Bring a sack lunch for a picnic afterward.


Friday, May 16th:

9:30 AM FUN-PLUS-H2-23-NW Meet Simone Caruthers(720-636-2884), at Anderson Park (44th & Field) . We will ride west on Clear Creek Trail to McIntyre, then on to the Ralston Creek, Blunn, and Van Bibber Trails, a few streets to Easley and then back to the Clear Creek Trail and return. Bring your lunch to socialize after the ride. 


Tuesday, May 20th:

9:00 AM Leisure H1-17-SW.Lee Gulch Loop Meet Jill McMahon(303 888-0314 cell) at the Aspen Grove Shopping Center parking lot in the very southeast corner (south of the Alamo Drafthouse which is 7301 S Santa Fe Dr Unit #850, Littleton.)   This is a loop ride on the Platte River Trail, the Big Dry Creek Trail, the Highline Trail and the Lee Gulch Trail. It winds around some very pretty areas - mostly on paved trails but some gravel and a short distance on residential streets. There will be an optional lunch afterwards at Piccino’s . Bring a snack, and money for lunch if you plan to join us.


Wednesday, May 21st:

9:30 AM FUN PLUS H-2-25 miles SW Meet Peter Woulfe (540-219-6674) at Clement Park. Meet behind the library near the skateboard park. We will exit the rear of the park, work our way to Coal Mine, to the C-470 trail exiting at Ken Caryl through the neighborhood to South Valley Dr., then South Platte Canyon Rd. to Chatfield. Returning on the Columbine Trail and neighborhood streets. Bring your lunch to socialize after the ride.


Thursday, May 22nd:

9:30 AM FUN Plus H2+ 28 miles SW-Meet Diane at the Stone House and go through the Pinehurst and Bowmar neighborhoods, and those south of Coal Mine to the King Soopers at Ken Caryl and Wadsworth.  Water break and do some back track, then return through Grants Ranch.  Leader not on Meet Up.  303-271-9642 (land line)


Friday, May 23rd:

7:45 AM INT-H3-17.7-W-+1350' elev.  "West Triple Loop with Eyes on Danish!"  MEET 07:45am   REGISTER BY TEXT 303-905-8510 to leader by Thursday, May 22.  Meet Marilyn Choske at Green Gables Park: enter from Garrison, located between Wisconsin & Florida.  Pedal south and west on bike-friendly streets and climb to Dinosaur saddle; descend and climb into Red Rocks Park; descend into Morrison; enter Bear Creek Park and climb Kumpfmiller Road to exit the Park on the east. Then the fun begins:  take Morrison Road to Kipling Street and enjoy (maybe!) your final climb. Bring $ to reward yourself with a tasty pastry at Taste of Denmark.  Short return to cars.  Pace: 7-14mph depending on uphill steeps!  Ride won't go if rainy or forecast for rain in AM.  Call leader if in doubt.

10:00 AM ATB Gravel or MTB- Best for ebikes!!  H4 with 2,371 feet elevation gain-21 miles W Grapevine-Genesee-Bergen Park loop. Route will be mostly paved but with gravel sections over Grapevine Road. Meet Janet Martel (303-929-5950) at Little Park on Colorado Hwy. 74 near Idledale (Bear Creek Canyon Road).  Pass through Idledale a few 100 feet and the road to the parking lot is on the left down by Bear Creek.  Difficult to see. We will ride over Grapevine road from parking to frontage road (S) along I70.  Ride thru the Genesee subdivision and cross I70 to follow frontage road (N) to the bike path taking us into Bergen Park.  We can have a rest break here.  There is a McDonalds and a few places to eat our snacks.  We will Cross back over Hwy 74 past El Rancho and follow to Hidden Valley.  Cross Hwy 74 one more time and descend Kerr Gulch Road back to Bear Creek.at Kittridge.  Follow HWY 74 past Lair O'the Bear back to our parking lot.  Sounds like a lot but this is a beautiful ride, well worth the climbs. Please RSVP if possible for this ride.

10:30 AM MTB P2-3, T2-3.  Marshall Mesa Trailhead near Boulder. Marshall Mesa and Dowdy Draw trails. This has been for years a top spring favorite.  See the MeetUp for details and RSVP.


Wednesday, May 28th:

9:00AM FUN PLUS H-2-23 miles SW Meet Peter Woulfe (540-219-6674) at Reynolds Landing parking lot (6745 S. Santa Fe Dr). We will ride the South Platte, go up Dartmouth Ave. to  Dahlia Street, Happy Canyon proceed to Quincy Ave. on to Clarkson to a trail behind Englewood High School some neighborhood streets and then return on the South Platte. Bring your lunch to socialize after the ride. 

9:30AM MTB P2-2.5,T2 Meet new ride leader, Ken Lieb (720 985 9883at the main parking lot for Buffalo CreekWe will ride up FS road 543 for roughly 3 1/2 miles to the junction with the Morrison Creek trail, then ride up Morrison Creek to where it joins the Shinglemill trail.  Option to descend lower part of Shinglemill trail, (back to road 543) or continue up Shinglemill to where it joins the CO trail, and then descend full Shinglemill trail, back to road.  Total mileage around 14 miles or 10 miles, depending on which option, with over 6 miles being on the forest service road.

9:00 AM Leisure Ride H1-17 SW Ride to a Mexican Bakery Meet Lin Hark (303-507-3502) at Overland Pond Park (S Platte River Trail and Florida Ave) We will ride the South Platte Trail north then a few streets to a Mexican Bakery. Bring a lock and money for snacks at Emanuel's Bakery.


Friday, May 30th:

9:00 AM FUN PLUS-H3-24-NW-(Elevation Gain = 1207 feet) Meet Jeff Krinsky (720-373-9107) for THE GREAT TOTEM POLE RIDE AKA THE HIDDEN GEMS OF INTERLOCKEN! This exciting ride full of twists and turns uses portions of the new Hwy. 36 Trail to take us on a loop that includes the hidden gems of Flatirons Mall, Interlocken, Standley Lake, and Rock Creek Village! We will meet at the Rock Creek Village Safeway, which is centrally located in Superior at the NW corner of Coalton and Rock Creek Parkway (Address is 1601 Coalton Rd., Superior). This ride is now 99.99% on paved trails.
